ARTIST STATEMENT

Seen on my canvases is the raw product of clashing together opposites: My Turkish roots versus North American upbringing. Growing up in a classical music household versus building a successful career in Finance.The serene Mediterranean summer versus the chaotic New York City hustle and energy. Positioned at the nexus of the opposite ends of the spectrum, my art merges the two and represents the intermediary. The sense of the blazing summer sunlight against the breeze over the meditation in Turkey, all conjunct with a different sensory experience of the chaotic, fast-paced, competitive corporate world in NYC. With my acrylic paint, I select colors and designs that help transport the viewer to this spectrum of my life, and to reflect on their own oppositional clashes. These works of art are a representation of who we have been, who we are, and who we are becoming.
